How to use the signature generator

1. Type it or draw it. Type your name to see it in six handwriting styles, or switch to Draw it and sign with your finger, mouse or trackpad.
2. Choose your ink. Black suits most documents. Blue makes it clear a printed page was signed by hand.
3. Download the PNG. The image has a transparent background and is cropped to your signature, so it sits cleanly on a letter, contract or email.

Typed or drawn: which should I use?

A typed signature looks neat and is the same every time, which suits email footers and letters. A drawn signature looks like the one you write on paper. For anything you sign often, draw it once and keep the file.

How to add your signature to a document

• In a PDF: most PDF readers let you add an image or a saved signature. Insert the PNG and resize it over the signature line.
• In Word or Google Docs: insert the PNG as an image and set it to sit in front of the text, so you can place it on the line.
• In an email: add the PNG to your email signature settings.

Is a signature image legally binding?

A picture of a signature shows a name, but not who added it or when. For contracts, waivers and consent forms, what matters is the record behind the signature: who signed, that they agreed to sign electronically, and when. In most countries, an electronic signature collected that way is valid for everyday agreements.

That is why agreements are better signed through a form than with a pasted image. A form can show the agreement, ask the signer to accept it, record their email and the time they signed, and save a signed copy for both sides.
